About Us

The Faculty of Design encompasses Art & Design and Graphic Communication and Technical subjects. Creativity both thinking and productive, links the subjects taught in Design. Our aim is to equip every young person with skills for learning life and work through innovative learning experiences. Visual literacy, communication, problem-solving analysis and evaluation underpin our BGE and Senior phase curriculum.  

The BGE (S1,2 & 3) in Design

• S1: 1 period of Art and Design, 1 period of Graphics and 1 period of Technical per week

• S2: 1 period of Art and Design, 1 period of Graphics and 1 period of Technical per week

• S3: Through Personalisation and Choice young people can choose 3 periods of Design, Practical Woodwork or 2 periods of Graphic Communication or a combination.

Senior Phase (S4,5 & 6) Design Pathways

The following courses are offered in the senior phase: 

• Art and Design (National 4, 5, Higher and Advanced Higher)

• Design and Manufacture (National 4, 5 and Higher)

• Graphic Communication (National 4, 5 and Higher)

• Practical Woodwork (National 4 and 5)

• Photography (NPA SCQF Level 5)
