Our vision
Working together to inspire learners through fostering excellence in learning and teaching.
Welcome to the Social Subjects Faculty at our school, where we are proud to offer a rich and engaging curriculum that supports both skills and knowledge development. Across the disciplines of Geography, History, Modern Studies, and Religious, Moral and Philosophical Studies (RMPS), our learners explore the world around them—past and present—while developing key life skills that prepare them for the future. Our faculty places a strong emphasis on teamwork, problem solving, leadership, and communication, encouraging pupils to think critically, work collaboratively, and express their ideas with confidence. Through thought-provoking lessons and real-world contexts, we aim to nurture informed, responsible, and active citizens.
In S1 and S2 young people study Social Subjects – this is a course which integrates Geography, History, Modern Studies and RMPS and equips our young people with valuable skills. These skills include, for example, map skills, being able to debate, work effectively with others, evaluate evidence, research, make informed conclusions and think critically. Literacy, numeracy and health and well-being are all intertwined with the Social Subjects content and skills through a wealth of learning activities and interesting topics.
In S3 young people are able to personalise their learning in Social Subjects by choosing to take Social Subjects with Geography, Social Subjects with History, Social Subjects with Modern Studies, Social Subjects with Scottish Studies, Travel and Tourism or People in Society. In addition to this they have a core period each week of RMPS. All young people will be taught transferable skills which build upon those developed in S1 and S2 and will help prepare them for the senior phase and in particular the production of an Added Value Unit and Assignment.
The following courses are offered in the senior phase: Geography, Travel and Tourism, History, Modern Studies, Politics, RMPS and Modern Studies. Please see the Pathways information below for further information.
In all of the courses offered within the faculty, pupils are encouraged to further build on their collaborative and independent learning, appropriate and effective use of technology, and develop their skills of analysis and evaluation of sources.
