Welcome to Meldrum Academy’s Enhanced Provision/Additional Support for Learning Faculty
At Meldrum Academy, we’re proud to offer an Enhanced Provision as part of our Additional Support for Learning (ASL) team. This support is designed for young people with a variety of additional needs and is fully integrated into our mainstream school. This reflects our inclusive approach and our belief that every young person deserves the chance to reach their full potential.
A Supportive and Inclusive Environment
Our Enhanced Provision provides a safe, caring, and supportive space tailored to each pupil’s individual needs — whether those are around learning, communication, sensory processing, physical challenges, or social and emotional development.
We work closely with families, support services, and other professionals to create personalised plans that support your child’s learning, wellbeing, and ability to take part in school life in a meaningful way.
Learning and the Curriculum
We follow Scotland’s Curriculum for Excellence (CfE), planning lessons to make sure your child/young person experiences a broad and balanced education. Wherever possible, we include pupils’ interests in the learning process to help keep them engaged and motivated.
Every day, our timetable includes:
Literacy
Numeracy
Health and Wellbeing
Other subjects such as Science, Modern Languages, Music, and Art
Outdoor learning and life skills, where appropriate
Learning is adapted to each child’s level to make it accessible and relevant. Some pupils work in smaller groups, follow personalised timetables, or join mainstream classes with support. For pupils working at earlier developmental levels, we use specialised planning tools to guide learning.
Assessment and Reporting
We assess and report your child’s progress using the Curriculum for Excellence Benchmarks, and, where appropriate, National Qualifications at levels 1, 2, or 3. Our reports are a bit different from the rest of the school to reflect the personalised learning happening in our Enhanced Provision.
To help you stay informed and involved:
We use Learning Journals to share your child’s learning journey, including work in the Hub/Den and in any mainstream classes they take part in.
We hold face-to-face Parents’ Evenings so you can visit the school, see your child’s work, and speak with their lead teacher.
We prioritise regular and meaningful communication with families, including updates on progress, next steps, and achievements.
Our Team
Our Enhanced Provision is run by a dedicated team of teachers, pupil support assistants, and supported by other professionals who are passionate about helping young people thrive. We focus on emotional wellbeing, communication, independence, and life skills to help prepare your child for life after school.
