Term 1 Tracking Reports for S2 and S3
S1 & S2 Design Levels are based on combined performance in Art, Graphics and Technical. The Design course covers a broad range of CFE Experiences and Outcomes from expressive arts and technologies.
In S2 Art learners build upon the practical skills developed throughout S1 adding more challenging forms including symmetrical, elliptical manmade objects, they learn to build compositions and use visual elements such as colour and line for expressive purposes. They explore process based techniques such as printmaking. Greater emphasis is placed on learners’ decision making, evaluation of their ideas and ability to justify their opinions as they learn about different art styles. In Graphics they are introduced to Perspective Sketching, Orthographic Drawing and Typography. In Technical the practical skills developed in s1 are extended as young people learn more about the Design Process, enhancing their creative thinking and problem solving skills. They will also develop teamworking and communication whilst learning basic engineering principles through a bridge building project.
S2 Term 1 Tracking Assessments are based on combined performance in Art & Design and Technical. The level is based on a range of evidence displaying the key skills of drawing from observation, controlling/manipulating materials (including metalworking), developing ideas, evaluating and problem solving.
In S3 Art and Design, Graphic Communication and Design Practical are taught as 3 separate subjects.
In Art and Design Term 1 Tracking Assessments the level is based on evidence of analytical and imaginative drawing skills, expressive use of materials and techniques.
In Graphic Communication Term 1 Tracking Assessments the level is based on evidence of skills in Orthographic sketching, 2 point Perspective and CAD (Inventor) and Logo design (Affinity Designer)
In Design Practical Term 1 Tracking Assessments the level is based on evidence of Understanding the Design Process, Researching, Idea generation and Development (ice scraper project). Practical woodwork skills Measuring, Marking, Cutting, Assembly and Finishing (Picture Frame)
