Term 1 Tracking Reports for S2 and S3
S2 and S3 English Reports – Term 1 (Reading)
For the purposes of reporting, term 1 comments in English relate to performance in one aspect of Reading – Close Reading of an unseen text – not the overall level in English.
The grading system works as follows:
The number denotes the level of text that the pupil has been given in assessment.
Their performance is indicated by the following letters:
Exceeding Expectations: Where a pupil has understood the majority of the ideas of the text, and successfully analysed the writer’s use of language to create effect.
On Target: Where a pupil has understood the majority of the ideas of the text, and identified the writer’s use of language to create effect.
Requires Support: Where a pupil has not shown understanding of the ideas in the text, and/or has not identified the writer’s use of language to create effect.
Appropriate Progress: Where a pupil has shown understanding and engagement of a text appropriate for their reading age.
S1 and S2 Homework for English is 20 minutes per day of participation in the Accelerated Reader programme to help further increase their reading age and ability to access the wider curriculum.
All pupils should have an Accelerated Reader book from the school library, and be completing quizzes on these once completed.

Given delays in the programme starting this session, we do not have the facility to report on progress being made against targets, but parents and carers can log in to Home Connect – your child should be able to give you their log-in name for this.
